How to Get Freelancer ID Card
Freelancer ID Card is a very important document for all freelancers. This ID card is provided to the freelancers through verification from Bangladesh Government and Ministry of ICT. If freelancing is your profession, this card serves as proof of your profession and income. But many people do not know how to get this ID card or what is required to get the ID card. Today in this post we will give you details about how to apply and what you need to get the ID card.
What Will be Needed?
This card has some conditions. The government has set certain qualifications to recognize you as a freelancer. You will also need some papers or documents to prove yourself as a freelancer. What you will need:
- Must have your NID card. You cannot apply without NID card.
- You must have earned at least $1000 in the last 12 months or 1 year through online work. Otherwise you will not be considered as a freelancer.
- Proof that you are earning from abroad will be required.
- The freelancing marketplace or client will need proof of the contract you are working through.
- It must be legal in Bangladesh law.
There are several documents you can provide to prove your source of foreign income and type of work.
Documents they Officially Require:
- Statement of Payoneer or any such online payment gateway
- A statement from the freelancing marketplace you work on
- Your bank account statement
- Remittance Certificate
Not all of these may be needed. But the ones that are there are better to keep close. The above documents must contain your name, full 12 months income statement, full transaction details etc. They may also want to verify via video call. Apart from these, an application fee of Rs.1500 will be applicable for applying. You have to make this payment from mobile wallet or card.

How to Apply
You have to go to freelancer website freelancers.gov.bd from mobile or PC browser to apply with scan copy of all documents and payment. Then you can complete the application by following the instructions below.
- Click on the 'Apply Now' button.
- You will see a form on the next page. Fill your full name, email, mobile number, password (2 times). Fill the captcha from the 'I'm not a robot' box.
- Click on the 'Sign Up' button. Your account has been created. You will see a message like "Please check your email to verify".
- Login to your provided email account. You will see an email in your inbox. If you can't find it in the inbox, you can find it in spam or junk mail.
- The email will contain a link to verify the account. Click on that link. It will take you to a new page where you will see the message 'Account verified, you may login'.
- Login with your given email and password on this page.
- After login, you will see the option called 'Freelancer ID' first on the new page. Click here to go to new page.
- On the new page you will see a new button called 'Apply Now'. Click there and go to new page.
- Here you have to fill a new form in 4 steps. Some of the information you provided when signing up will be pre-populated. You have to fill the rest of the information accurately. The first step is to fill in your date of birth, National ID card number, address and gender. There will be option to verify mobile number here. Clicking on the 'Verify' button in the mobile number section will send an OTP code to your mobile which you have to fill and verify. If everything is OK, click on the 'Save and Next' button to go to the next step.
- In the second step, you will first get a box called 'Which of the following describes you the best?' There will be 3 options. You have to understand and fill these three options 'Individual Freelancer', 'Freelance Team Owner', 'Freelance Team Member'. If you are working alone then the first option is for you. You don't have to change anything. However, if you have created a team or team yourself, then you have to select the second option here. And if you work as a member of such a team, then the third option is for you.

- In this option 'Your Expertise' you can write what you work on. Next you need to select which marketplace you work on. However, even if you do not work in any of the listed marketplaces, you can select 'Other' and provide the profile link of your preferred marketplace. In the next option if you are working from outside the marketplace then you have to give yes. Then some new options will appear and you have to fill the link and income information there. How many out of 5 your job rating should also be given here. In the last part you have to give the income in 12 months. Fill correct income information here. Click on the 'Save and Next' button again to go to the next step.

- The third step will ask for some detailed information. First write something about your career in few words. Next, tell us about your skills or what you do. If you have any certificate in these skills, mention it in the next box. In the next part you have to tell how many years you have been working online. The last part will ask if you get reviews for your work outside of the marketplace. Provide correct information. Click on the 'Save and Next' button again.
- The fourth and final step will ask for a photo of you that will appear on the ID card. So upload a recent picture of yourself here. Then click on the 'Finish' button. You will see a page next to 'Pending Payment' where you will be informed that payment instructions have been emailed to you. Now you need to go to your email.
- Freelancers.gov.bd will get a new email where you will get a link to pay Rs.1500. By clicking on this link you will get the option to pay through BKash, Cash, Rocket, Card etc. Make the payment.
- Within a few days you will receive a new email asking you for some documents for proof. You should send a reply to this email by attaching the documents mentioned above that you have. If all the documents are correct you will get a mail within a few days that your application has been accepted and you have been given an ID as a freelancer. It may take up to 3 weeks in total.
- Now to get the ID card, you have to login to the freelancers.gov.bd site again. Here you can download and print the virtual ID card. This card will be issued for a period of one year. You can renew later.
